Naina Redhu at Aside is once again handling the coveted task of designing the logo for Barcamp Delhi 6. The first draft had come out on this Sunday and what followed it was a feverish discussion about the design. She has taken a cue from the Delhi Metro and the idea appears brilliant to my eyes.
After a huge bundle of feedback, the second iteration of the logo has come out. You can go to this page and be a part of the discussion or if there is a feedback that you want to give.
For the sake of convenience, I am giving out the present iterations here :

Before the colleges get into exam mode, before the budget comes in and ruins your mood, and before the weather turns from the cool-cozy winters to the sultry summers - Lets have the 6th edition of Barcamp Delhi. Yes, you read that right.
The Barcamp Delhi 6 (BCD6) is all set to roll out soon.
And to put our foot on the accelerator, Let’s get 2 things sorted out soon:
- Dates - the choices are :
- Feb 21/22 2009
- Feb 28/Mar 01 2009
- Could somebody suggest a good enough venue in Central Delhi, which is most probably close to a metro station as well. If you have any contacts who can help us book the venue, all the more better.
We are waiting for your votes and suggestions. Get onto the googlegroup for Barcamp Delhi. And you will figure out that a poll for the dates, and suggestions for a venue are going on. You can either communicate through that mailing list or send your e-writings to Piyush / Ritesh . We would soon shout out for more volunteers to get the logistics in place.
Okay. Thats it for the time being. We are all set for Barcamp Delhi 6. Here’s for a innovative and learning BCD6.

Simplicity impresses like nothing else. So it did. Day 2 of the Barcamp Delhi 5 did not have a pre-set agenda. That left complexity of arrangements somewhere out in the woods. All that was left at our venue was simplicity. As expected, fewer attendees had made it out of the sunday slumber. There was no rush to fill up session slots. The registration desk was not being targeted in numbers. And everything was just going on at the Dogra Hall. There was no need for the campers to occupy multiple rooms on different floors. Everything at one place with everybody involved. .Simple.
The day kicked off with all of us squatting on the floor of the hall and getting into a discussion about blogging. It was as informal and un-conference as it could get. Soon it was time for the sessions to begin. First to go on the floor was this talk about gaining control over your mind. The next person on the floor was not known to anybody. He had just arrived in India and was invited to the Barcamp Delhi only the night before. He is Fabian Rodriguez - an Ubuntu Systems Senior Support Analyst from Canada. What he brought along was a really good fact file about Ubuntu.
Piyush finally got to do his talk on why its difficult for entrepreneurs to find life partners. What are the challenges, perceptions and ground realities. This one was very well received and the audience participation might be just second next to Pankaj Jain’s talk on the current economic scenario. There were a few more towards the end of the day. Details about them will be shared in subsequent posts.
Just an interesting fact from Google Trends. The text “Barcamp” has been searched most from India, and the top 4 cities happen to be from India. Isn’t that an indicator of how this culture is fast spreading into the net savvy population at least.
No seeds. No leaves. No branches. No stems. As the title suggests. Nothing “Tree”ky about this Barcamp. Simple.

Spring signifies the emergence of new life. Spring months are the blossoming months that bring meaningful growth and rejuvenation in its wake. Spring enriches natural beauty and it seems as if nature is dressed in a beautiful green gown. If you were at IIT Delhi this morning, the “spring” in BCD5’s steps was resplendent in its energy and enthusiasm. It was the first day of Barcamp Delhi 5.

If you talk of new life, do a “grep -c ” on the string “student” at this page. No better evidence of some young, fresh blood taking to the Barcamp as their window to opportunities, technology, business and what not. Starting on time and with the registration desk in place was looking like a missed deadline already. But thanks to some good contributions from student folks, it was like that last minute release making it out the door.
Having attended some of the sessions during the day, I could see a lot of awareness creeping through the ranks. Knowledge and ideas are blossoming in almost every individual who made it to the Barcamp Delhi 5. Whether it be a seasoned entrepreneur like Narendra Nag, a CEO like Bhavin Turakhia or a fresh engineering graduate like Paras Chopra. Everybody had something to say. And with no dearth of ears to listen, it made all the more sense. It is really encouraging to see Bhavin talk the technical intricacies of infinite scalability. Goes to show how deeply involved is this CEO with the technology that his company thrives upon. Narendra did a wonderful job with his presentation slides being ultra-light on content, but heavily loaded with knowledge from his many many years at many many organizations.
IIT Delhi was turned all green and red with the wonderful Barcamp posters all over the place. The green representing life and red representing energy, the Barcamp logo proved to be a wonderful mix of what the whole concept represents. Here it is, for the umpteenth time. And this time - I will give credit to the entire ESG Team at Earlysail. Since I don’t know all the members of this team, I will resist from taking names.

It has been a wonderful day as summed up during the feedback. There were a few suggestions that could possibly improve Barcamp Delhi, and make it more “un-conference” like. The organizing team is going to take one hard look at those suggestions and get in whatever fits the bill.
Hic. Hic. Okay its time to let the beer go to work. Finally, I will catch up on some sleep. Soon it will be another morning of this lovely 2 day spring season right in the middle of a scorching summer and the slumbery winters ahead. What else could BCD5 ask for. Here it is to a Rocking Barcamp Delhi 5.
See you tomorrow.

Can you see the exclamation mark written all over my face ? Well, if you cant - take a look at the page listing BCD5 Campers. As I write these words, the number on the bottom left hand corner of this page reads 348. Now go and look in the mirror. Yes thats the exclamation mark I was talking about.
The BCD5 organizing team is amused at the attendance numbers already indicated by this page. And we are yet to enter the last day which has traditionally seen more than 40% of the attendees registering themselves. It cant get any bigger and better than this. There is no point mentioning the electric mix of talent thats going to make itself available for this event. And here the BCD5 team isn’t losing any sweat over this. They have always loved to extend this marathon mile by mile, whenever the need arose.
Do you remember the seeds that went into this place on August 08. What luck have we had with the quality that we got then. This is one beautiful thing growing up. And it looks like spring already. At least for the BCD5 seeds. The smoke of crackers and economic turmoil notwithstanding, they have carved out a space for themselves. We cant thank our sponsors enough. Its no justice to their contribution, but this is the least I could do here. Mentioning the best of water and sunlight providers here -
Directi - Jupiter sponsor
Ibibo - Saturn sponsor
Rediff and GlobalLogic - Uranus sponsors
IIT Delhi - Venue hosts
The event starts at 9 AM on October 11. You will find a huge congregation of attendees and volunteers inside and outside the Seminar Hall, IIT Delhi. No need to worry about the directions inside the campus. Just reach the IIT-Delhi main gate and you will find enough pointers. Here is your complete guide to the venue.
Be there. The blossoming of BCD5 flowers is a Must-Not-Miss occasion. Come. Listen. Learn. Share.
In the true spirit of Barcamp Delhi 5 - Come - Participate - Collaborate.

It has been a week of hectic activity on part of the volunteers for BCD5. The Barcamp needed to add more strength in its support pillars. Ibibo got onto the Barcamp Delhi bandwagon by means of capturing one of the gold sponsor slots. Piyush and Pankaj have been in a state of constantly facing too much brilliance. After all, they are the ones coercing IIT folks into accepting much of what BCD5 will need from its venue host.
There are some issues with the Wi-Fi setup and bandwidth. Innovative ideas are needed to enhance a bandwidth of 128kbps. Any suggestions would be welcome. Please write to riteshgoel@gmail.com or gpiyush@gmail.com
Once again, we thank
Now its time to ask for some help. We would like to request all readers of this space to give us their feedbacks and comments about Barcamp Delhi 5. Thats for the request. Before the BCD5 plant gains enough strength in its own stem, it needs a lot of strong support. Effectively behaving as a climber, it started looking for something it can clung onto. Not devoid of generosity, lady luck smiled. We got in touch with Bhavin Turakhia at Directi. He got us talking to a community evangelist at his organization. Some emails, some phone calls and a lot of discussions later - Directi was proudly standing on the podium meant for our Platinum Sponsor. From their website - ” Directi (http://www.directi.com) is a 300+ million dollars group of Businesses, that develop innovative mass-market Web Products serving millions of Customers worldwide. “ Currently employing 550 employees, Directi has got to do with a lot of technologies that you will hear or discuss at the Barcamp. But one big stem might not have proved enough for our little climber plant. It needs some more pillars in the foundation. Enter Rediff and Global Logic onto our silver podium. Rediff as a company needs no introduction. They had proved to be wonderful sponsors at the Proto event in Delhi. Global Logic on the other hand is another technology company, with its headquarters in Virginia, USA. Its Indian operations are based out Pune, Bangalore and Noida. No mistaking the above good news, we haven’t stopped looking for more “sponsoring” pillars. There is room for more effort and money to be pumped into this event. We are already in conversation with a few prospective sponsors. Many thanks to all the people involved from these places. They have helped us create a good solid base, from where we hope to build up a fine piece of work representing all the energy, enthusiasm and passion that exists in the entrepreneur-ially inclined sections of the society. Arrival of the sponsoring stems has provided the much needed strength for our little plant to start climbing newer heights. Its ready to reach out and join “The League of Entrepreneurship Giants”. Amen. |

It cant get any better than this. We have got a fantastic logo for the Barcamp Delhi 5. Holding it any longer will give me some severe pain in the stomach or the mailbox itself. Here it is, just for your eyes -
Piyush had got a couple of logos for BCD5. The group debated on which one to chose. All I could infer from the emails was - its the fairer sex that held the key. Once they zeroed in on what you see above, there were few who could argue their case against the girls. There was one with the venue mentioned within the logo. But the “Aesthetic Club” (read ladies) shot that one down as too cluttered. No prizes for guessing what logo was I voting for.
Nevertheless, here is the official logo. Many thanks to Abhishek from Earlysail - for he is the artist behind this classic work. Use this logo whenever you make a post about Barcamp Delhi 5, or wherever you write about the event.
Finally, I hope you got to see the small green leaves. Right there in Barcamp. Ah…now you see them. Seeds…to sprouts…and now leaves. Visible growth for BCD5.

The seeds have germinated.
A lot of sunlight and some water sprinkles have softened the outer shell.
Little sprouts can be seen carving out themselves.
Oh ! That was about the BCD5 seeds. But strangely enough, here is another set of
sentences that sound anomalous in nature.
The thoughts and ideas have crystallized.
A lot of development and some marketing have converted dreams into reality.
Startups are beginning to show their mettle.
The sprouting of the lentil seeds might be a little difficult to follow. However, courtesy Barcamp Delhi 5, the startup stories will not be so tough to find out. Its happening once again in our city on Oct 10 and 11. Whether you already work for a startup or not, whether you want to work for one or not, whether you have that entrepreneurial streak or not - BCD5 is not to be missed.
If you can think or learn or just want to be a listener to some amazing stories and thoughts, you should be heading to the BCD5 venue. We are still awaiting the final confirmations from our venue host. Watch out this space for your Oct 10-11 destination. Whats the menu we are dishing out over these 2 days ? Some answers are to be found on our Sessions page.
Campers are to register here. While we need some volunteers as well.
If you happen to be a known name in the blogosphere, wait on us. We are soon going to come across and ask for some help with the promotions of this event.
And before I end this, do not forget your contributions and comments. Our sprouts still need the helpings of water and sunlight. We are aiming for a really big tree here.

For the past week or so, the rain gods have been blessing Delhi in abundance. The soil is not thirsty and parched anymore. Enough water has percolated through the hard rocky surface of this city. Turning it soft and conducive to sowing seeds. Taking a cue from the sowing of Kharif crops, here is another one that we all are waiting to nurture - Delhi BarCamp 5.

Thanks to the initial efforts from Nilesh and Piyush, we have already started thinking about BCD5. Some tentative dates and venues are being discussed. The Wiki has been already setup. Among the foremost requirements right now are volunteers.
Soon we will be expanding our horizons and send out more requirements in terms of ideas, creativity as well as execution of plans. We are not limiting ourselves and the event to be just about the “true” BarCamp. There is an intention to add some fun quotient as well. Lets see how things turn out.
For the time being, the seeds are in here. At this very spot. Your contributions will ensure a lot of water and sunlight to them. Keep doing your bit.
