For the past week or so, the rain gods have been blessing Delhi in abundance. The soil is not thirsty and parched anymore. Enough water has percolated through the hard rocky surface of this city. Turning it soft and conducive to sowing seeds. Taking a cue from the sowing of Kharif crops, here is another one that we all are waiting to nurture - Delhi BarCamp 5.

BCD5

Thanks to the initial efforts from Nilesh and Piyush, we have already started thinking about BCD5. Some tentative dates and venues are being discussed. The Wiki has been already setup. Among the foremost requirements right now are volunteers.

Soon we will be expanding our horizons and send out more requirements in terms of ideas, creativity as well as execution of plans. We are not limiting ourselves and the event to be just about the “true” BarCamp. There is an intention to add some fun quotient as well. Lets see how things turn out.

For the time being, the seeds are in here. At this very spot. Your contributions will ensure a lot of water and sunlight to them. Keep doing your bit.

It’s time to realize that you can do several many things to be more efficient at this event.
Follow these best practices and help yourselves as well as the organizers to make this Barcamp a rocking event.
1. Adding your Name/ Session at Wiki

Please add your name only at the end of the list.

We populate our mailing list from the bottom of table. Therefore, if you have added somewhere in the middle or at the top, many of you would be missing on these important mails. This looks highly unprofessional.

Please be nice to the organisers, Event Hosts and demonstrate professionalism.

2. Car Pooling

Do you know this Barcamp you can also help fellow campers to reach the venue or perhaps provide them comfort with a very small gesture of yours? Just two steps and you are done!

1. Use the following Link

2. Register yourself for Car Pooling if you are bringing your own car/ bike etc.

That’sit! People looking to get the Lift/ Pool will contact you themselves. Isn’t it simple and a very great means to help the fellow campers?

3. Hosting Out Station Participants

Barcamps witness lots of enthusiasts flocking from different cities/ countries to the event. Wouldn’t it be nice if you can lower their burden a little bit with a very tiny gesture of yours? Two steps again and youare done!

1. Visit ExtraBed Wiki
2. Edit here to provide a couch/ a bed for a night or two to the fellow campers and save them some bucks.

That’s it! Isn’t it nice to hang around with like minded people even for longer than the event actually is and help yourself build strong relationships and network?

People from outside can also visit extrabed wiki to find a free accomodation for themselves.

4. Bring you Own Cameras/ Handycams/ Video Devices

After the event is over, everyone wants to have the memories shared. Streaming Live Pictures/ Videos/ Podcasts/ Live Blogging etc. helps you preserve the memories of your experience and helps participants totrack the event remotely.

Why depend on others to share it with us. Please bring your own cameras, handycams, audio/video devices to capture the moments and share withothers as well. Please add your name to the List.

Important - Any Blog post, Image/Video/Audio upload should be tagged properly with the Tags, BCD4 or BarcampDelhi4

5. Volunteering for the event

No endeavour can achieve great success without lots of like-minded people behind it.

We still are highly short of dedicated Volunteers to manage the event on the Event Day. Help us in
i. Lunch Coordination
ii. Registration Desk
iii. Room Volunteers
iv. Talk/ Session/ Demo Coordinators
v. Technically strong volunteers with skills in recolving Wi-Fi, laptop configuration problems etc.

Please register yourself fast on the wiki as Volunteers. Call up Piyush (+91.9971317108) to take some responsibilities.

Hopefully, these tips will help us organize BCD4 little better and avoid any chaos.

2 more days to go … Happy Barcamping!

Senora te Senorita,

Why not just put our gears at the back of our car and make some out-of-nowhere noise this BCD4?
Are you the one who shakes the hands without sticks on the table in the boardroom or at the important meeting waiting for the team to come?

Are you the one who dream of playing an instrument like a Pop Singer does it?

If yes, it’s time for all of you to bring your toolkits that can make some noise! Yes, just some noise!

Should you know how to play an instrument, That would be a luxury!

Let’s flash this message across to anyone and everyone who knows / wants to play (a)ny instrument that makes some noise which people can relate to as Music :-)

No practicing!!!

No rehearsals!!!

A complete unplugged band (rhymes with unconference)

Some of the coordinators are not that bad when it comes to making noise and making people think that they are listening to some sort of Music.
Amarsh (amarsh.anand AT gmail DOT com) actually struggles with Bongos but he does it with confidence really!
Nilesh (nilesh.tr AT gmail DOT com) fiddles around with Guitar, just that his fingers sometimes make some sense with the strings. Let’s hope they’ll do it again at BCD4.
… Can YOU play any instrument at all? Or would you like to unwind with lots of Noise?

If yes, Join these genuinely ingenuine future rockers and rock the event like never before!

It’s been a long wait for all the participants/ volunteers to see the Venue details on the Wiki. But not to worry anymore!

Today after a whole day coordination with couple of companies/ institutes, we zeroed on to: “Amity Innovation Incubator” in Noida.

Initially we were little skeptical about the Amity’s campus, infact even after entering the campus and walking about half a km under the hot sun to locate the right building made us feel considering the other options. However, once inside the building, the thoughts turned almost 180 degrees away.

The infrastructure and the beauty of the campus simply took the minds of the organisers to the seventh heaven. Now it feels as if it’s perhaps the best facility that we could get for hosting the Barcamp.

Thanks a lot to the people who connected us with to right person in Amity and taking the responsibility on their shoulders to get it done in high spirits.

Paticipants need to note down the complete address of the Venue:

Amity Innovation Incubator
Auditorium, Block C
Amity University Campus
Sector 125, Noida
For any assistance call: +91.120.46590000, 4659151

For Driving Directions + Auto-Fare on SMS
: Send rg source-location-name to bcd4 (to 56767)
Note: SMS based Driving Direction service will be active only on 17th May 2008

Feels good to see constructive progress every day as we reach the time when we all can see each other closely.

Till then Happy Barcamping!

Important:
1.) Please share you views/ feedbacks on the blog posts and motivate us to write more.
2.) If you happen to stay somewhere near the Noida Express Highway/ If you can commute to Amity Campus easily, please connect with us. We need lots of volunteers for coordinating the event.

Barcamp Delhi4 is no more struggling for the thought leaders but we still need many more hands for the execution and to find the right venue for it.

We understand that everyday many of us are hitting the Wiki link and actively waiting to see the final Venue of the event but to their disappointment it has not yet been announced. It is highly disappointing for us and for the sponsors as well. However, all we can say right now is to please keep little more patience.

What’s actually happening behind?

We already have an option to host the Barcamp on 17th. However, the place has two potential problems:

  • It is in the basement of a company premise and there is no Air Conditioner. I’m sure with the summers on the head, it will become very suffocating for 100+ participants.
  • The place has lot of echo, therefore, it will be difficult to isolate the sessions and hence the user experience may hamper.

Based on these factors, we have decided to keep our hunt for another Venue sponsor ON. Though we are trying our best to find a venue, it would be a great help if you can connect us to right people/ institutions who can sponsor their space for a day.

Should we go to Noida/Gurgaon?

One continuous problem for Barcamp Delhi organisers has always been to answer; where to hold the event? Noida and Gurgaon being the hubs for IT companies, it becomes relatively easy for us to find the sponsors at either regions.

However, Gurgaon participants complain that Noida becomes too far for them if we hold the event there and vice-versa. Therefore, ideally we should hold Barcamp at the center i.e. New Delhi. Now the problem is again to find the sponsors and we get back to the problem of Square One.

Wondering if any Barcamp Enthusiasts/ Lovers in Delhi are listening?

BarcampDelhi4 needs you, you all.
